Marie Johansson, BELC member of Sweden’s Gislaved municipality discussed the impact of EU decisions on everyday life for a municipality like theirs, in the local newspaper, Värnamo Nyheter. The local councillor explained in the article, published on 3 June, 2024, how they aim to boost citizens' engagement and interest in EU matters.

As a way to bring the municipality closer to EU decisions, Ms Johansson mentioned her BELC membership. She described how, in her role as an elected representative at local level, is connected to the EU. She also highlighted some examples of EU-funded development projects in the region.

The article is a brilliant example how BELC members can use the network and through their engagemen inform the public about the EU in general and how decisions in Brussels affect them at local level.
