Hosted by EU Information Offices in Malta, Europe Direct Valletta and Europe Direct Gozo, numerous local BELC events took place in Malta on 13 September 2023, in the wake of the State of the European Union (SOTEU) speech of European Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen.
Head of the European Commission Representation in Malta, Lorenzo Vella, kicked off the open debates that took place with local community members, including Executive Member of the Local Councils Association, Antony Chircop; BELC member and Mayor of Qrendi Local Council, David M. Schembri; as well as BELC member and Councillor of Hal Qormi Local Council, Doris Zammit.
Their presence and the discussions they held showcased the commitment of those community leaders to foster a deeper understanding of how EU policy changes may influence people’s daily lives in Malta and Gozo.
