Portuguese BELC partner municipality, Caldas da Rainha took Europe to students

During the month of May 2024, BELC member, Maria Lima from the partner municipality of Portugal’s Caldas da Rainha has developed several initiatives to promote the European Elections.

The municipality’s Youth Office - in collaboration with Europe Direct Oeste, Lezíria and Médio Tejo - took part in an information session, titled "Europe Goes to School!" at the Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro Secondary School, at the invitation of the student association. The session was attended by around 50 young people, most of them of voting age. The event was well-received by the participants, who had the opportunity to clarify doubts and opening a debate on the importance of the European Union and its policies.

The aim of this activity was to inform student about the workings of EU institutions and significance of the European elections, encouraging young people to vote, pointing out that the European Union membership is important for Portugal.

The "Europe Goes to School!" initiative is part of a series of efforts by the Municipality of Caldas da Rainha and its partners to encourage civic and political participation, emphasising that voting as a fundamental instrument of democracy.
