Lithuanian BELC member brings politicians and community together

In a spirited celebration of Europe Day, the management of the Public Library of Akmenė District Municipality and BELC member Tomas Martinaitis co-organised an event on 6 May, 2024, that brought together community members and political figures to discuss the future of the European Union.

The event featured former European Union Commissioner, Vytenis Povilas Andriukaitis as key speaker and European Parliament member, Juozas Olekas. Nearly 30 participants, ranging from senior high school students to pensioners, came to learn and take part in the discussions.

BELC member from Akmenė, Tomas Martinaitis curated the discussion between speakers and the audience. Together they talked about crossroads and challenges that might be faced by the European Union in the near future: nuances of the future financial perspective, EU expansion and Ukraine’s future in it.

“Everyone was eager to discuss among themselves and ask questions from the speakers,” said Tomas Martinaitis, highlighting that people of all ages cared about the EU’s future and developments.
